About Sahiwal
Sahiwal is a city in Punjab, Pakistan. It is the administrative centre of Sahiwal District and Sahiwal Division. Sahiwal is approximately 180 km from the major city Lahore and is the city between Lahore and Multan. The population is 207,388 .It lies between 30-40 north latitude and 73-06 longitude. It is 500 ft above sea level.District is bordered by the Faisalabad and Toba Taik Singh districts to the north, the district of Okara to the east, the districts of Pak Pattan and Vehari to the south and Khanewal to the west and northwest. The river Indus forms the western boundary of the district.
History
Sahiwal was a small town on Main Karachi Lahore railway Line .1989 Sahiwal was declared district and its headquarter was established in Pakpattan and 1864 it was shifted to Sahiwal . The current city was founded by Lt. Governor of Punjab Sir Robert Montgomery in 1865.Sahiwal was originally known as Montgomery on the name of its founder .The name was changed in 1996 and city took it's current Sahiwal.
