Introduction:

The Department of Biosciences, CIIT, Sahiwal was established in 2007. The biosciences faculty includes highly qualified and competent individuals wit excellence in academics as well as research. The Central Library at CIIT Sahiwal contains books of eminent authors on the subject matter of Biosciences. Biosciences laboratories at CIIT Sahiwal are well equipped and are further being upgraded. Therefore, the Department not only provides scholarly environment for teaching but also offers very conducive research opportunities. Following the esteemed traditions of academic excellence and scholarly research Department of Biosciences, CIIT Sahiwal is aimed to produce world class scholars and researchers with expertise in various disciplines of life sciences that will particularly promote the agriculture and health sectors of Pakistan.

Vision:

The vision of Department of Biosciences CIIT Sahiwal campus is based on the global visualization where such programs are adopted that equally involves participation of consumers and producers. The Department of Biosciences at CIIT Sahiwal campus was established in July 2008. Since then the department is striving to gain excellence in academic programs.
Currently within undergraduate programmes we are offering BS-Bioinformatics. However, we have planned to launch new programs keeping in view the need of a developing country like Pakistan in general and the region of Sahiwal particularly.PC1 for launching of DVM program at CIIT Sahiwal has been submitted. Since Sahiwal region is famous for its high quality breed of Cattle, there are a lot of opportunities availablefor Veterinary sciences in this area. By introducing DVM we will serve local community by producing competent vetenarians.
Project on Initiation of Food science and nutrition program is in pipeline. This degree will devise techniques in food technology. Sahiwal region produces citrus, mangos, guava, potato and other vegetables. Food Science and Nutrition is needed in the area for value addition to these farm products.Pharmaceutical industry in Pakistan is in developing state. There are few pharmaceutical companies in Pakistan who develop medicines. There is lot of potential for pharmaceutical industry in Pakistan so steps must be taken to flourish this industry. In order to develop manpower for this industry we intend to offer D. Pharmacy in future.
Within Graduate programs we are offering M.S. Biosciences in Fall 2012 with specialization in the areas of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology & Immunology, Molecular Virology and Molecular Genetics.
